Through a series of documentaries, Melvyn Bragg heads an enquiry into the interation between class and culture in Britain across the 20th Century.

From the rigid aristocracy through the flapping 20’s, the rocking 50’s and the swinning 60’s to the modern day, class has shaped all our lives form the way we speak, eat and dress to the way we work, play and die. It is at the heart of our comedy, our art , our theatre. It is a very British fascination. Now, travelling the length and bredth of the country. Melvyn Bragg considers the thriving cultures born of this distraction and conversely, the power of the culture to enforce, if not set social boundaries. As politicians claim we are reaching a bold new world of classless society, this series asks, how much, if at all have we changed…………
